Francesca Burchianti is a traditional painter, designer, digital artist passionate about computer editing and photography. Born in a small town on the coast, she’s currently based in Florence, Tuscany, Italy.
Her favorite subjects are nature and landscapes, because she thinks that “only through nature you can find a reconnection with the cosmos”, as she says in her journal “My Art Philosophy”, where she explains in her own words what means for her make art.
Francesca is currently working on her digital abstract landscapes and nature studies.
When not playing with brushes or computer, she spends her time reading books rigorously at night or wandering through some of the most beautiful Florence gardens in search of inspiration.
Francesca’s background includes studies at the Art Academy Fondazione Trossi-Uberti in Livorno, where she had the chance to practice drawing and oil painting from life, in the studio and en plein air. “During beautiful season we were used to bring easels and colour boxes outside and paint in the huge park of the villa, in a full immersion of nature. In winter, we spent days inside with chimneys on, painting and drawing from sculptures, bas-reliefs and still lifes, while having fiery discussions about old masters.”
This passion led her to study Art History at the University in Pisa, where she deepened her knowledge not only on art, but also on literature, philosophy, classical studies while visiting museums to see masterpieces in person.
She also took a degree in Jewellery Design at Le Arti Orafe in Florence, one of the most prestigious European schools. There she could improve her skills and techniques on multiple fields such as design with watercolour rendering, jewellery history, gemmological analysis, wax carving and modeling, till creating unique pieces in artisan workshops. After some exhibitions in Germany, Spain, Florence at M.I.A Mostra Internazionale dell’Artigianato, she had an experience as freelance Jewelry Designer with her personal brand, and a nomination as emerging artist from Vogue Jewelry Magazine. This is an excerpt from the Catalog of her Exhibition at M.I.A Mostra Internazionale dell’Artigianato, Giovani e materia, ricerca e tendenza: “… Her activity reaches the top with the creation of her personal brand, with a series of unique pieces, micro sculptures or limited editions series. All the jewels are nature inspired, with a pure and synthetic style. The materials used are mostly white gold, silver, diamonds, rubies, opals, turquoise and pearls, all strictly natural…”
Due to her passion for metal working, Francesca used genuine gold and silver leaf on her paintings too: “Gold and silver leaf are awesome to use. Like real metals, you can find them in a variety of shades and carats, from lemon, green to rose, for example. It depends on the mixture with other metals in decreasing order of percentage, such as copper, silver, palladium, platinum.”
For what concerns Photography and Technology, Francesca is self-taught. She started her interest first in black and white analogue photography and darkroom, then switched to computer and digital. She works on Apple MacBook and iPad Pro with Apple Pencil, mainly with Adobe Photoshop, Fresco, Procreate and other cool apps, and shoots simply with iPhone.
